TRIO Collaboration
The Diversity Services Office has partnered with the Office of University Housing to encourage student involvement in two living-learning community opportunities.
MUNDO Learning Community Program
The Multicultural Understanding through Nontraditional Discovery Opportunities (MUNDO) Living-Learning program is a unique community of students, staff and faculty committed to understanding and taking actions that create a more fair and just world for all individuals and communities. MUNDO provides opportunities for students to achieve both academic success and strong cross-cultural awareness of the world around you.
MUNDO works closely with The Ohio State University Colleges of the Arts and Sciences and the College of Education to help students develop their leadership and critical thinking skills as it relates to social justice and leadership.
What you can do as an active part of MUNDO:
Challenge yourself personally and intellectually through meaningful, educational and fun volunteer and diversity-related experiences, regardless of your academic major.
- Gain a better understanding of the importance of how and why all individuals are interconnected whether we live in the same country or the same planet.
- Develop the skills to personally define how you can make a “positive difference in local, national and even global communities.
- An opportunity to participate in the OSU Nationwide Diversity Leadership Transcript Program (which provides students with an official record of their work with diversity related experiences while at OSU).
- Past MUNDO participants have gone on to careers in International Business, Social Work, and Engineering, as well as programs such as “Teach for America and the "United States Peace Corps."
MUNDO Learning Community Program
Afrikan American Learning Community Program
The Afrikan American Learning Community is founded upon the principles of leadership, community, and academic excellence. With assistance from the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences' Diversity Services Office, the Office of Minority Affairs, and University Housing, this community provides a balanced experience for students to strengthen their academic potential, achieve a sense of connectedness to OSU and its many communities on campus, and further develop personal growth and identity. Located in Morrill Tower, the program is designed for any student, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender.
The AALC works closely with the Program for Advising in Scholarship and Service (PASS) in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences to provide personalized academic and social support.
What you can do as an active part of the AALC:
- Experience the music, histories and foods of African and African American communities from all over the country and the globe.
- Experience personalized academic advising related to your major in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences.
- Opportunities to develop leadership and mentorship skills as an floor community leader.
